The Held Standard

Blog Post #1

Seeing the results of this now infamous slap, Will Smith has been banned for 10 years from the Oscars. This slap was due to a joke Chris Rock had made on Jada Pinkett Smith.

What I see is the standard of standing up for a person to be punishable by not controlling their sense of holding back. Will Smith was somewhat held at a high standard for composure, which he did not keep. As I feel about this he shouldn't have been held that high if he cared about the joke being of offensive nature. So he should not be held by the standard and punished for that. It makes sense for it to be punishable if it is too often or happens more than once.

Chris Rock was alright in making the joke because comedy is making light of something of any dark nature regardless of how heavy, but it is also subjective. Will Smith has a right to get mad, but the smack is more of a disregard to consequence and more of a standup to get his point across on how he felt. Jada Pinkett was more of the reason than the result. She only took offense and felt upset about the joke. This kind of triggered the events of Will Smith to smack Chris Rock.

If someone I admired had done this it would not really change my perspective on them. It would just be another series of events that has occurred relating to them. So I wouldn't hold it against them if they just defending someone they care about, but it still would be somewhat over the top to hit someone over a joke.

An example of some other celebrity acting out unexpectedly is the Youtuber "Ricegum" in a personal publicly streamed Q&A with a Girl who had gone through some Traumatic type of experiences. He asked her a way too insensitive question that was very controversial and got him a ban for a month on his social medias and streaming services. So he was not acting professionally or considerably.

There should always be some sort of accountability for every action they have and will do. When Celebrities do it, they would be held on higher standards for quite a lot especially behavior. Relatively any incident they are in, they are also responsible to being there whether causing it or correlated to it. So they should take any responsibility over anything they say or do.

My Final Thoughts on the Will Smith smack at the Oscars does not really affect anyone but the media and those actually involved. So I see it as a thing that easily left as fast at it came. Really seeing it the punishment for Will Smith was a lot in general for one slap and that is it. The Ban from the Oscar's for a year or 2 would have made sense but that's the remainder of my touch on this topic.
